YOU KEEP WAITING FOR THE OTHER SHOE TO DROP

When good things come, part of you flinches — bracing for the moment it all gets taken away again.

Something good happens. And instead of feeling it, you brace.

You catch yourself scanning the room for the catch. Waiting for the phone to ring with bad news. Waiting for the person to leave, the plan to fall through, the floor to open up the way it has before.

You call it being realistic. But you know what it really is. You're so used to the drop that you've stopped trusting the climb.

Nobody teaches you this part. That surviving hard things can leave you flinching at soft ones. That after enough bad news, your body starts guarding the good moments instead of living in them — because if you never fully let yourself have it, it can't fully be taken.

So you hover. One foot in the moment, one foot out the door. Half-present at the dinner, the celebration, the quiet ordinary Tuesday that's actually going fine. Braced.

You are not being punished for resting. You are allowed to let the good moment be good.

Here's the thing about the other shoe: sometimes it drops. Life is never going to promise you a floor that won't give way. But bracing every single day doesn't stop the fall — it just steals every day you spend waiting for it.

You've already paid for the hard things once. You don't have to keep paying rent on them by refusing to enjoy anything in between.

Try this, just for a minute. When something is good, let it be good. Feel the warm coffee. Hear the laugh. Notice that right now, in this exact breath, nothing is falling. You made it here. That counts.

You don't have to earn peace by suffering first. You don't have to guard happiness like it owes you an explanation. Some moments are simply yours to keep.

And if the shoe does drop someday — you'll do what you've always done. You'll get back up. You've got a whole history of proof. But that's tomorrow's strength, and it doesn't need to be borrowed today.

So set it down. The bracing. The scanning. Just for tonight, let your shoulders drop an inch. If you need to put words to the weight, leave them on the journal wall — someone out there is bracing right beside you.

You are not alone. Let the good be good. Keep moving forward.
